Biotechnology
The Indian biotechnology industry is becoming more and more important as a global provider of biotechnology solutions and services. India focuses on a wide range of biotechnology activities, aimed at strengthening the international market. Extensive research is carried out to find affordable and sustainable solutions for the large environmental problems and the problems in life sciences, food and energy. During the period 2002-2008, the Indian biotechnology sector had an annual growth rate of 40%. Of this growth, the bio-pharmaceutical sector still accounts for the bulk. India is interesting because of the possibilities to produce and perform research and clinical trials at low costs. Moreover, there are more than 300 institutions that annually produce half a million English-speaking students trained in the field of biotechnology and other life sciences-related sectors.
