The Indian maritime industry will be fundamentally important for the development of the country as a whole. India has to act now to prepare itself for the immense prospected increase in cargo traffic that lies ahead. The Indian government has presented a ten-year plan in which it specified the targets for 2020 such as increasing coastal shipping, increasing the Indian shipping fleet and the development of inland shipping and two new major ports. To be able to live up to these targets, India needs to acquire foreign expertise from countries like The Netherlands.

With the port of Rotterdam as flagship, foreign countries are interested in Dutch maritime technologies. The Dutch are specialized in building high-end yachts, inland shipping, port technologies and drilling.
