Shipbuilding and equipment
The shipbuilding industry has grown significantly in recent years, mainly by heavy investment by the state-owned enterprise Vinashin. These investments involve a number of new shipyard projects to build ships in order to meet domestic demand and in the long run, to produce US$ 1 billion worth of ships for export per year. Aiming at becoming the number four shipbuilder in the world by 2015, Vinashin needs a total investment of US$ 5.14 billion by 2011.
Improving human resources and supporting opportune industries are important elements of the development policy of Vietnam. Vietnam sends many workers and executives abroad for trainings. Also Vinashin sends a number of management personnel to participate in short term training courses to improve management skill and design abilities. About 70 percent of material, engines, consultancy and supervisory services necessary for shipbuilding are imported from foreign countries. In this regard, there are also good opportunities for Dutch companies/shipyards to provide proper training programs for management levels from vietnam.
